Summer School of "Young Scientists" 2021

Some children have only heard about the Slovak Academy of Sciences, others have visited it several times. However, none of them came to the Summer School of Young Scientists from coercion.

The information that it takes place from 19 to 23 July was found on the internet, informed by teachers, parents, friends, neighbors ... . The event already seemd very popular in its second year – because this year the organizers had to very carefully choose from 89 applications and cover letters from all over Slovakia. Finally, they met 28 „young scientists“.

Filip, Patrik a Tomáš spent this week at the Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics, SAS. They were leaded by colleague Dr. Naďa Beronská and her activity have been supported by Dr. Miroslav Čavojský, Dr. Andrej Opálek and Dr. Štefan Nagy. At the end og the week, the „young scientists“ presented everything they had experienced here and there were not enough. Filip, Patrik a Tomáš zealously explained that they studied the structure and properties of metals. As a part of this, they measured their microhardness, determined the chemical composition on an optical spectrometer, tested something from metallography and looked at a 3D printer.

It was hard for the boys to leave on Friday. With their diplomas in hand, they said goodbye with the words „in a year“. The five days they spent together with SAS scientists and their collaborators were unforgettable – and they vere as they had dreamed.
