1953

Establishment of Laboratory of mechanical engineering and metallurgy SAS in Bratislava and Košice.
Later, the Laboratory was renamed to Laboratory of mechanical engineering and metallurgy technology SAS.

1960

The Laboratory of mechanical engineering and metallurgy technology SAS was divided into Laboratory of metal physics SAS in Bratislava and Laboratory of metallurgy technology SAS in Košice.
(From Laboratory of metallurgy technology SAS, today's Institute of materials research SAS has been developed.)

1966

The Laboratory of metal physics SAS in Bratislava has grown and Institute of metal physics SAS was formated from it.

1968

The Institute of metal physics SAS was renamed to Institute of metallic materials SAS.

1955

Establishment of Laboratory of theoretical a applied mechanics SAS.

1959

The Laboratory of theoretical and applied mechanics SAS was renamed to Laboratory of machines and automatization SAS.

1961

The Laboratory of machines and automatization SAS has grown and Institute of machines and automatization SAS was formated from it.

1963

The Institute of machines and automatization SAS was renamed to Institute of mechanics and automatization SAS.

1966

Institute of machine mechanics SAS was formated from Department of machine mechanics of the Institute of mechanics and automatization SAS.
(Institute of technical cybernetics SAS was formated that is now named Institute of informatics SAS from Department of automatization and computing technology of the Institute of mechanics and automatization SAS.)  

1980

The Institute of materials and machine mechanics SAS has been formated by fusion of the Institute of metallic materials SAS and the Institute of machine mechanics SAS.
 
 

2008

Establishment of Institute of technology SAS (1. 1. 2008) as a specialized organization of SAS.

2015

Joining of the Institute of technology SAS with Institute of materials and machine mechanics SAS. The Institute of technology SAS ended on 1. 7. 2015, his successor is the Institute of materials and machine mechanics SAS.
 

2022

From the 1st. Januray 2022, the Institute has a legal form "verejná výskumná inštitúcia" (public research institution), abbr. "v. v. i."
