Conference Structural Materials 2023

On November 14, 2023, in cooperation with the Society for New Materials and Technologies and the Scientific Society for the Science of Metals at the SAS, we hosted the 14th edition of the international conference Structural materials 2023.

The conference follows on from previous biennials organized by the Society for New Materials and Technologies, organized since 1997.
The main goal of the conference is the exchange of the latest knowledge, especially in the field of construction materials, as well as the creation of conditions for the deepening of existing and professional contracts.

The conference focused on the following areas:
- construction materials (steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal alloys, ceramics, polymers, composites, powder metallurgy) - structure, properties, use
- modification of material properties (thermochemical treatment, surface treatment, coating, etc.)
- structural analysis, mechanical and physical properties
- production, recycling, sustainability, industrial applications, etc.

As part of the program, interesting lectures were given by international experts such as dr. Zbigniew Ranachowski and dr. Przemysław Ranachowski from the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research PAS, Warsaw from Poland, Michal Knapek from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, UK Prague, Czech Republic, Snehashis Pal from the University of Maribor, Faculty of Engineering, Maribor, Slovenia, Volodymyr Buranych from the Faculty of Materials Technology in Trnava, STU Bratislava, Slovakia and many others.
dr. Karol Iždinský from ÚMMS SAS, v.v.i. informed about the project FIT-4 NMP- Strategic and targeted support to incentivise talented newcomers to NMP (Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and New Production Technologies) projects under Horizon Europe. Doctoral student and promising young scientist Ing. Lucia Kopčanová presented the topic "Four-spot laser welding of duplex steel DSS 2507 with variable laser welding parameters". Marek Gebura from ÚMMS SAV, v.v.i. and GA Drilling, Bratislava, Slovakia, presented the topic "Extending the life of electrodes in high-performance plasma torches: A study on copper-WLa2O3 composite materials".
The conference provided an insight into the fascinating and dynamic field of materials engineering, development and research in the industry.
We thank the speakers and all participants for their contributions and engagement. We look forward to seeing materials engineering continue to advance towards a sustainable future full of innovation.
