A scholarship holder from Croatia researches aluminum foams at IMMM SAS

MSc. Tomislav Rodinger, Ph.D. student at the Department of Materials, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, Croatia, was awarded by Slovak National Scholarship. He started on June 1st, 2023 his research at the IMMM SAS under the supervision of Dr. Jaroslav Kováčik. For four months, he plans to perform analysis in aluminum foams. Work aims to create aluminum foams via the powder metallurgy method using different quantities of calcium carbonate as a foaming agent. CaCO3 is used as a cheaper alternative to the conventionally used titanium hydride. In addition, different amounts of alumina (Al2O3) at different grain sizes will be used as reinforcement in the foams to improve their mechanical properties. In the end, conclusions will be made about these values' influence on aluminum foams' properties.
