European researchers' night
Science popularisation project
Institute of materials and machine mechanics SAS traditionally participates in events of
European researchers' night since 2008.
Look at how the aluminum foam is created.... If you were a little bigger, you could try to do it yourself!
Materials for a better life
27. 9. 2019, Bratislava, Stará tržnica
At the development of new materials, we must now consider very well what benefits they will bring for life on Earth and how they will burden it. This problem is very complex, and its unilateral solutions can be as dangerous as ignoring it. Visitors to the stand learned about the issues of development of new materials developed at the Institute of Materials and Machines Mechanics SAS from a complex viewpoint of improvement of life on Earth. As an example, let us mention development issues of new materials directly for biomedical use or materials that have strong environmental impacts in terms of production, exchange or savings of energy.
Look inside the materials
28. 9. 2018, Bratislava, Stará tržnica
Technical materials are much more interesting inside than it may appear at first glance. At our exhibition stand, visitors observed that the inner structure of materials is not only complicated but also interesting and beautiful. They learned that understanding the inner world of materials enables us to develop materials with predetermined properties and how new materials enable us to produce new products that are gradually changing our world.
Science hidden in materials
29. 9. 2017, Bratislava, Stará tržnica
Introducing the fascinating world of the inner structure and composition of materials ingeniously created by man to serve him.
Visitors could observe the structure of various materials in microscopes, including the metal microstructures with popular explanation by experts. They had the opportunity to learn about the relationship between the structure of materials and their properties as well as about the development of new materials with predetermined properties that allow for the creation of otherwise unachievable products and facilities that contribute to making our world an increasingly better place for life.
The magical world of metals
30. 9. 2016, Bratislava, Stará tržnica
The exposition of IMMM SAS introduced successful industrial applications of advanced metal-based materials such as e.g. ultra-light aluminium foam, metal matrix composites capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, intermetallic alloys designed for aircraft engines or turbines of future energy equipment. These all are materials developed at the Institute for the sustainable development of life on Earth.
