The project is focused on the preparation and the study of two novel aluminium metal matrix composites in situ prepared by means of hot working powder metallurgy approach.
i, Al+Al3Ti based composites, fabricated by hot extrusion of soft, plastic and non-abrasive Al-Ti powder mixtures and followed by formation of reinforcing Al
3Ti phase within extruded profile by suitable thermal treatment. Prepared composites are expected to show high Young`s modulus at relatively low Al
3Ti content.
ii, ultrafine-grained Al+Al2O3 based composites, fabricated by forging of atomised fine alloyed Al powders covered by native Al
2O
3 layer. It is expected that homogenous dispersion of Al
2O
3 phase within Al matrix will assure extraordinary thermal stability, creep resistance and high temperature strength of composites up to ~450 °C.
