The project is focused on the preparation and the study of two novel aluminium metal matrix composites in situ prepared by means of hot working powder metallurgy approach.

i, Al+Al3Ti based composites, fabricated by hot extrusion of soft, plastic and non-abrasive Al-Ti powder mixtures and followed by formation of reinforcing Al3Ti phase within extruded profile by suitable thermal treatment. Prepared composites are expected to show high Young`s modulus at relatively low Al3Ti content.

ii, ultrafine-grained Al+Al2O3 based composites, fabricated by forging of atomised fine alloyed Al powders covered by native Al2O3 layer. It is expected that homogenous dispersion of Al2O3 phase within Al matrix will assure extraordinary thermal stability, creep resistance and high temperature strength of composites up to ~450 °C.
