Hard and superhard nanocomposite coatings

Acronym:NANOHARDCOAT
Project start:01.02.2008
Project end:31.12.2010
Programme:APVV
Project number:APVV-0034-07
Institute position in the project:Partner
Project leader at the institute:Marián Mikula
The proposed project is focused on the determination and understanding of the basic relationships among the conditions of the preparation of hard and superhard nanocomposite coatings based on W-WC/C, TiBx, TiBx(C,N)1-x and ReBx prepared by PVD methods, their microstructure characteristics studied by X-ray analysis, SEM, TEM, AFM, EDS/WDS, etc. and their final mechanical properties, especially their nano/micro hardness and tribological properties. The project assumes parallel use of several deposition techniques (magnetron, electron beam gun, new hybrid methods) which will result not only in the creation of the comprehensive database of the relationships "preparation conditions-microstructure-properties" but also the optimization of the coatings technology with the reproducible and controlled properties required by final users.
