Development of the aluminium matrix comosite reinforced by Al2O3 particles

Project start:01.01.2013
Project end:31.12.2015
Programme:VEGA
Project number:2/0111/13
Institute position in the project:The only one project investigator
Project leader:Martin Nosko
The project is focused on basic research of composite materials based on aluminum and its alloys reinforced with ceramic particles. The composite containing 10 to 20 wt. % Al2O3 particles will be prepared by dissolving the master alloy with 50 wt. % Al2O3. The master alloys will be prepared through a gas pressure infiltration method. In the frame of the project an effect of the following parameters will be studied: infiltration pressure, temperature, time with regard to the quality of Al-Al2O3 interface as well as reactions at the interface in case of aluminium alloy. Subsequently, an effect of pressure infiltration parameters on the dissolution kinetics of the master alloy in the melt and distribution of Al2O3 particles within the final composite will be studied. Finally, the mechanical and physical properties of the composite will be characterized.
