Development of assessment methodology of fatigue-life and reliability of structures operating under complicated load conditions

Project start:01.01.2007
Project end:31.12.2009
Programme:VEGA
Project number:2/7086/27
Institute position in the project:The only one project investigator
Project leader:Vladimír Kliman
The aim of the project is to create the system enabling to assess the resistance of the structure against fatigue fracture occurrence at design stage (checking of fatigue endurance), or stage of structure service at change of load conditions (assessment to further quarantee the originally designed fatigue properties), at modification of service fatigue life requirement (to assess the further structure operation after the termination of designed service endurance), etc. The result of the project solution should be an integrated model of computational estimation of fatigue life under the random nature of the loading process. The model should respect the loading mode, the stochastic character of material properties and loading process, and enable the probabilistic interpretation of fatigue-life calculation results in the form of distribution function. The model enable: to compare the different operational loadings and different materials, to optimize selection of the material for concrete structure operation, to separate proportion of material and random loading in the whole scatter of fatigue life and to assess the influence of the so-called non-standard load situations occurrence on fatigue reliability of the structure. The scientific contribution consists in design of new model for material characteristics and loading process treatment based on the probabilistic approach and its incorporation into the fatigue life calculation procedures.
