Application of acoustic methods in testing of ultralight alloys and matrix composites (MMC) based on Mg and Al before and after processing using intensive strain methods

Project start:01.01.2010
Project end:31.12.2012
Programme:Academic agreement
Institute position in the project:Project co-lead partner
Project leader at the institute:Stanislav Kúdela
The project is focused on research of the relation between the mechanical and acoustic properties of both light alloys as well as of composites reinforced with ceramic fibres generally based on Mg and Al. The alloys and composite samples will be prepared at IMMM SAV in Bratislava using gas pressure infiltration method. They will be investigated in IPPT PAN Warszawa, using the ultrasonic equipment prepared for testing of small volume samples. The following effects are planned to assess: •monitoring of the deformation processes in compressed materials •phase segregation, solidification processes and discontinuities of the materials •influence of the texture and laminations on the mechanical strength of investigated samples •ultrasonic flaw detection procedure optimizing in investigated materials.
